I was so relieved that I had finally found out what was wrong! Then a couple of hours later it kicked in, this was not a little scratch. It was not a little cold. This was very serious! I felt like that this was killing me; I mean all the signs of dying were there. The doc told me it was a fifty to fifty chance of surviving the surgery. The tumor needed to come out. “Don’t worry” he said, “We do a lot of these.”
It was almost Christmas time and I planned to go to my mother’s again. Everyone in the family advised me not to go, that my health was more important. Even the docs said to not go. I conceded to their wishes and did not go. (Usually I am in denial and say to myself, that I am okay). This time was different.
I remember after two weeks after being in intensive care the surgeon approached me and told me the tumor in my spinal cord was bigger than what showed on the MRI. That he had to take out some vertebrae to get to the tumor and also he removed a section of my spinal cord, which he said was necessary and unavoidable
I was so looking forward to after surgery because of the pain. I figured that I would be so drug up that I would not feel anything. That is what I get for thinking: Boy, I was wrong! I was and am still in more pain than before the surgery.

This is a story about a man who had a rare tumor in his spinal cord. Because of this tumor, he has been paralyzed from his waist down to his toes. He writes about his struggles and the barriers that he faces every day and how he manages to overcome them; in his writings he was able to bring out my emotions from laughter to tears. It is a very inspirational book about never quitting and always moving forward.
Mr. Marr is wartime Marine Corps veteran that writes about some of his experience in the corps. He also gives some of his opinions about the service. In his summary he writes, "The word retreat is not in the Marine Corps dictionary. During the Korean War at the Chosen Reservoir the marines were vastly outnumbered and surrounded. 'Major General Oliver P. Smith stated 'Retreat hell, we are not retreating; we are just advancing in a different direction.'" He then writes, "When you come across a barrier or problem, situations or whatever it might be. You become a Marine. You do not give up or quit, you do not retreat. You just advance in a different direction."
He writes that there are many of the people in this world, who are like him and his thoughts about how they are different from other people. He believes that everyone has a purpose in life and he questions himself on his main purpose in this world?
This a true story for which he speaks, not as a professional writer, but from his heart. I believe it is written for all ages from high school to the elderly.
In his story he talks about spinal cord tumors, the symptoms and their progression. He gives the medical procedures required to remove them.
