Great reference for LTE and LTE-Advanced

This book is a good reference for professionals who would like to have a quick and easy to understand reference of 3GPP's LTE/LTE-Advanced specs. The language is clear and details are well presented. The bullet concept makes the book a great "quick reference", and if you are not very fond of skimming through lots of pages to find something you are looking for, you definitely will like this book.
You may get disappointed by the print quality but bear in mind that this book is a "self published" product and that is the reason why you are able to get such a reference for less than 60$. The one purchased from Amazon.com is not a colour print, if you want a colour one check out lulu.com.
I would like to see a chapter on Buffer Status Report as there are chapters on other UL control information elements such as Scheduling Request and UL HARQ ACK/NACK reporting. On the other hand, this topic is well documented in 3GPP 36.321 Chapter 5.4.5 - Rel 10.
I have another book from the same author. When I first read that book, I liked the "log file representation" of system variables (SIBs, several IEs etc...), but the table approach used in this book is more difficult to read (to me).
Lastly, the software which is available on the the book's website -LTE Visualization Tool-, is very useful and deserves a separate appreciation.

Good LTE reference book. Be better in color.

Just got this book - 2nd edition. The bullet format makes this a great reference book. It summarizes the LTE 3GPP specifications in bullet form but includes plenty of detail in bullets, tables and figures. Any more detail and you would be reading the spec! It appears to be especially good for those who know LTE but need a quick way to look up details about a particular part of the signal.

Unfortunately, this edition is published in grayscale. The first edition was in color which accentuated detail in a lot of the figures -- especially in figures related to resource element allocation to the different physical signals and channels. The figures are fair in grayscale but the color version was alot better. I needed the latest release for the LTE Release 10 updates so I needed to get this edition. I do not know if a color version of the 2nd edition is available. If so, get that one.

Just the facts.

This is a great book if you want to learn about LTE technology. This is not an introductory book, but if you know some basics of networks, MAC protocols, FDMA and CDMA, this book will fill you in -- to whatever level of detail you want. It is great about giving you the hard details, and in some places the reason for doing it that way, but with a minimum of fluff. Of course, every other word is an acronym, but there's a glossary in the front of the book, and you can learn them pretty quickly. Features introduced in LTE advanced are called out where they occur.
