It's a quick read ... because there's not much to it. There are also numerous errors in the book. I didn't find anything in the book that isn't freely available on the web.

I found the book to be very shallow. I have been using smart things for about eight months, on both v1 and v2 of the hub. Most of the information was consistent with my experience, but there were a few gaps.

Excellent place to start

This book is a great first place to dip your toe in the water of smartthings and smart living. Mr. O'Driscoll compiles the essential tips and required processes for a smooth setup using ST products. I also appreciate the links to more in depth concepts which broaden ST capabilities. I highly recommend this book as a great starting point.!

LOVED Jaxon!!!!!

I want to start by saying Thank You to the author for asking me to read and review her book. This was quite the GEM. I was intrigued when I read the blurb, but didn't really know what to expect, since I had never read anything by this author. I will say I was pleasantly surprised. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was so much more then just a NA love story, where a broken girl meets a boy and they get together. This time yes we have a broken girl, but she is also the player. Yes she meets a good looking bad boy, but there is so much more to him...he has a secret. Yes they get together but there is so much more to them and their relationship. This story was a great love story but with the element of suspense. I just knew that Jaxon was hiding something...I was thrilled to learn that I was right all along :). This book will bring out many different emotions in you will reading it, but to me that's what makes it a 5 star book.

Tessa and Jaxon were great characters in my opinion. Yes Tessa was a broken girl but she was still a strong little spitfire. I truly enjoyed that she had a specific belief when it came to who she associated with and she stuck to it. No matter what it cost her. There was one part that I wanted to throttle Tessa. She comes from a horrible family unit. After her family suffers a tragic loss her parents, who of course to NO blame whatsoever, pretty much shut her out. Plus there were other things that happened in Tessa's past that would make anyone not trust people, but at one point that lack if trust really screwed things up. You'll need to read this book to know what I'm talking about. Now....as for Jaxon. He was great!!! I know he was keeping something but he truly didn't want to but had no choice. Jaxon was such a sweet man and you could totally tell that he was completely in love with Tessa. I loved that he refused to have sex with her until it truly meant something to her and wasn't just another conquest. But let me tell you that when they do finally get together....it is HOT!!!! I also loved the pace that the author takes their relationship, it made it believable.

As for Piper and Ryan ( Tessa and Jaxon's bff's) I loved their characters as well. I would love to get their story because I really don't think it is finished.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a love story with a little bit of suspense and a story of learning how to trust and love again. I am excited to read more books by this author.

Loved it! Sexy, steamy, and fun! 5 Sexy Stars!

I seriously could not put Lawful Overdose down! I already loved Justine Elvira as an author from reading the Price series, but this one has topped the charts for me. Lawful Overdose is insanely sexy, hot, and angsty. Tessa and Jaxon are definitely at the top of my list of favorite couples. Tessa is a strong, vivacious girl that doesn't take crap from anyone. Jaxon is smoking hot! He is "fan myself with my kindle, I wish he was real" hot!

Tessa Grayson lives her life partying, and trying to fill a void that was left after the death of her sister. Her parents practically ignore her, so she uses sex and alcohol to fill the empty space left behind. She isn't looking for love, she isn't looking for anything serious. When she spies Jaxon Wyatt, possibly the best looking man she has ever laid eyes on, she wants to have one night of wild, passionate, earth shattering sex.

Jaxon Wyatt has just transferred to the same university as Tessa. He has moved to town to be closer to his older brother, Ryder, who happens to be Tessa's boss. He is immediately enamored by Tessa on his first night in town.

The first interactions between Tessa and Jaxon are full of sexual tension. Jaxon wants Tessa and Tessa wants Jaxon. What they want from each other is very different. Tessa only wants one night of uninhibited passion, Jaxon wants more.

I'm not going to go into more of the plot, because I can't without giving it away, just know that the plot is amazing. I felt completely connected with Tessa, Jaxon, Piper, and Ryan. Piper is Tessa's best friend, and Ryan is Jaxon's best friend. Secrets are kept, betrayal is misinterpreted, hearts are broken, then secrets are revealed.

Lawful Overdose is an amazing book. Like I said, I already was a fan of Justine Elvira, but this book really hit the spot for me. It is my favorite of her books so far, and I can't wait to read more from her! 5 Sexy Stars!

Wow, where to start..... I fell in love with this book. Loved Jax and Tessa....hoping Piper and Ryan will get their own story someday. This was a terrific sexy as hell read and I am just speechless right now. Just finished but had to get this rating out there for book lovers everywhere to grab a copy of this NOW!!!! Great story:) I cannot wait to read more from this author in the future, she has now moved to my "must-read favorite author" list!!!!!

What a conclusion to the trilogy!

Beyond the Shadows by Brent Weeks is the third and final novel in the Night Angel Trilogy. The first book in the trilogy is titled The Way of Shadows (The Night Angel Trilogy) and the second is titled Shadow's Edge (The Night Angel Trilogy). As I read this novel, I began to become more and more depressed; simply because I knew that with each page I turned I was that much closer to the end of such a wonderful trilogy. While Mr. Weeks may be a new author, there is nothing beginner about his writing or stories. Here are my thoughts on this novel.

The plot of this novel feels different from the first two books. Where the first two books were more intimate in setting and scope, in this book the reader is really introduced to the world of Midcyru. Readers begin to understand the vast and storied history of the world and each region within the world. The one aspect that I liked above all others in regards to the plot was things that were hinted at, and briefly talked about during the first two novels rear their head and are explained in great detail in this book. Normally, in this section of my reviews I give a rather brief idea of what to expect in terms of plot. However, with this novel, I don't think that's really possible as so many things happen in this novel. What I can say is if you have read the first two books in this trilogy and can think of a plot line that has yet to be resolved; it is resolved in this book. Yet, not all plot lines are resolved in ways that readers would want, or expect, them to be resolved. Mr. Weeks holds true to his ability to drag his characters through hell and back, and not all of them come back. I was very pleased to finish this book and not have any loose ends not tied up from the previous books, just for the sake of teasing the reader about possible future novels. The ending fit the feeling and theme of the first two books perfectly.

If you like a novel with rich and detailed characters, you will most certainly enjoy this book. There are numerous characters that not only receive face time, but also have their own significant character development. I can not recall reading a novel with this many characters who all get this amount of development, and not lose track of the story or another character. All of the characters that readers would expect return in this novel; Kylar, Logan, Dorian, Solon, Vi, Neph Dada, Terah Graesin, Sister Ariell, and many more. One thing that may get overlooked by some readers is that while there are many characters, each one comes across as a unique and different character. They all have their own motivations, specific ways they talk, they all have flaws. It's simply amazing that this level of character development could occur with each of these characters and still keep the story moving. Each character has a specific purpose for the story, there are no fluff characters in this book. You can be sure that if a character is in a scene, there is a specific reason for that scene and character being there. The back stories of the character are varied and interesting. It is so rewarding to a reader when a great plot is mixed with great characters, and that is exactly what has occurred in this book and trilogy.

One minor criticism about this novel:

Through the first two books, and parts of this book as well, the story moves at a frenetic pace and it makes the events feel dire and important. However, there are a couple times in this book where the pace slows dramatically as certain plot points and decisions are explained in great detail. The only reason I list this as a criticism is because when this occurs it feels out of place with the rest of the storyline.

Some things I liked about this novel:

1 - The depth of the story line. All of the sub plots, the main story arc, and how it all comes together at the end of the novel is fantastic. For a trilogy to cover as much as this trilogy does, and wrapping up most of it in the third book, is nice. It seems the growing trend in fantasy right now is to write multi-volume sagas. Here it is a simple trilogy that covers everything it takes other authors to cover in eight or none books.

2 - The characters. I enjoyed how each character was a separate individual, there were very few clich�s used in this novel and if they were they were not presented as the traditional clich�. Each character elicited some type of reaction, which is something I have rarely run into in a fantasy novel.

3 - The amount of world building that went into this novel, and trilogy. It is never more evident than in this book how much history the world has. Each area has a different feeling to it as well as having its own separate history. I applaud Mr. Week's efforts in making this world come alive. There were several times where the world was almost another character.

Rating this book as a single novel, it is a fantastic read. Rating this novel as part of a trilogy, it ranks up there as one of the best trilogies I have read in a very long time. Mr. weeks has not only made his mark on the fantasy genre, he has kicked in the doors and announced he is here to stay. The quality of these books, the world building, plot development, and character development makes reading Mr. Week's books a joy. Fans of the fantasy genre should not hesitate to pick up these books; there is something in these books that everyone will enjoy. People who are simply looking to dip their feet into the genre would also be well advised to dive into this trilogy. I will certainly be recommending this book, and trilogy, to anyone that will listen. I only hope that our wait to revisit Midcyru is short. I can not wait to see what Mr. Weeks has in store for readers. I have little doubt that he will have a long and successful career. This was simply a joy to read, well done Mr. Weeks!

All came together

As I read the first book i was a bit cautious thinking "will I like this kind of book about wetboys and murder?" Then I loved every chapter as the story grew! I am thankful there is still more books out there for me. I have much to look forward to in my next Brent Weeks story. Thank you

Advanced SQL Programming!!!!

I have been programming database applications since 1984. I started using SQL in 1989. Since that time, I thought I had mastered SQL. Well ... I was wrong. Joe's book helps pin point the finer things concerning SQL ... how it really works. Anyone who is an ADVANCED user of SQL will find this book full of the little things that all most all developers will overlook. For example, how does a SQL statement really execute (pg 174 to 181) explains this in great detail. Many advanced developers are not just satisfied with knowing how to do something; but, want to know every little detail about how something really works. I found the chapters on normalization and Armstrong's Axioms to be the most useful concept in the entire book. Database design concepts are critical in performing a good, solid, and efficient query and this chapter brings it out very well. I have found this book to be my only source for advanced SQL concepts (besides Joe's puzzle book...). Good job ... and thanks.

Interesting tricks but may not quite practical

I think the book talks about a lot of interesting tricks which are not very crucial to a developer's everyday life work. I admit that without this book I'll probably have to spend more time to figure out how to perform this or that task, but I normally have no need to perform those tasks anyway. For my work, I'll prefer reading Oracle's online manual, or those popular Oracle books. Of course I'm keeping this book in case I really need to implement some strange things in my database and I can't find out how by myself.

Joe does a pretty good job

Some of the concepts are a little lofty for the casual SQL programmer, but it is SQL for Smarties not dummies. He gives a lot of SQL code in his examples, but does not show the results of the code in a screen shot that I believe would be most helpful.

Overall, I like the book and would buy it again given the opportunity.

its not wonder the christianity of our day is so lukewarm when books like these have all but disappeared from our shelves...the early church considered dying for christ the highest honor (even above living for him) today most evangelicals would consider it extreme or legalistic. read this book and build up your most holy faith on the accounts of the martyrs...and learn to overcome by the blood of the lamb, the word of your testimony, and not loving your life--unto death and John and Betty Stam did.

Book is a Classic in the Field

I've looked at many books on different trades and all the books I could find on framing. This is easily the best. Mark Currie gives you the details you need, and he gives them to you in a clear and understandable way. His book covers basic to advanced topics. It's well-organized, has lots of good illustrations, and doesn't waste your time on information you don't need. Mark Currie clearly knows what he's talking about and knows how to explain things well. This is the best book to have on framing.

If you are a young framer and you feel like you are being held back by the older more knowledgeable carpenters on your crew, buy this book! It covers all phases of the framing process including roof cutting and stair building. The pros and cons of working for your self as a "piece worker" or working "hourly" for the framing contractor is also discussed. Lots of infomation on how to cut production time using simple yet effective methods is seemingly on every page. The book is organized so that each chapter discusses one part or phase of the framing process and what you can expect to get paid. This book transformed me from a grunt on a framing crew making bread and water wages to a piece worker making journyman's wage in one season.
